Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply for a My Texans Checking or Texans Two-Step Checking account?

You can apply for either account by clicking the ‘Open Your Account’ button on this page, or by visiting a branch to complete the application process.

What are the eligibility requirements for My Texans Checking and Texans Two-Step Checking?

Both My Texans Checking and Texans Two-Step Checking are available to all Texans Credit Union members. Membership of Texans Credit Union is open to:
  • Anyone who lives in Texas through the Texas Consumer Council.
  • Individuals who live, work, or attend school in the Texas counties of Collin, Cooke, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Fannin, Grayson, Hunt, Kaufman, Rockwall, Tarrant, Travis, and Williamson
  • Employees who work for a Texans Preferred Business
  • Immediate family of a current Texans Credit Union member

Are there any fees for using Zelle®?

No, Zelle® is free to use with both My Texans Checking and Texans Two-Step Checking, enabling fast and secure money transfers without additional costs.

How do I set up direct deposit?

You can use Texans CU’s Direct Deposit Switch Tool to establish a new direct deposit or transfer your existing direct deposit from another bank to your Texans CU account. Once set up, you'll receive your paycheck a day earlier than your scheduled payday!

What happens if I do not have enough money in my account to cover the monthly service charge?

The process for covering transactions with Overdraft Protection or Courtesy Pay does not change. The service charge processes and the account incurs either an overdraft transfer fee or a Courtesy Pay fee.

Does a monthly wire into my checking account qualify for the waived monthly service fee on a Texans checking account?

No. A wire transfer is not the same as regular payroll or government direct deposit. However, if you sign up for e-statements, the monthly service charge can be waived.

If I or my child are under 18, do I get charged the monthly service fee for a Texans checking account?

No, if the primary account holder is under 18, the monthly service charge is waived until age 18.

What if I have a dispute about a purchase transaction on my statement?

Report any disputes by calling 972.348.2000 (800.843.5295) or visiting a Texans branch.

How do I turn my debit card on and off?

Your debit card can be turned off and on within Digital Banking or the Texans CU Mobile App. Once you are in Card Management, simply toggle the Block This Card switch under the desired debit card. Your card will be immediately blocked and unable to be used. To turn your card back on, simply toggle the switch again.

Does my debit card offer contactless transactions?

Can I use my Texans debit card with a digital wallet?

Yes! Your debit card is mobile-ready. Simply add to the digital wallet application on your phone.

Where is my Texans debit card accepted?

Your Texans debit card is accepted everywhere that takes Visa®.

What should I do if I plan to travel and use my debit card?

If you plan to travel and use your debit card, you must notify the credit union of your travel plans by calling 972.348.2000 or 800.843.5295 or by visiting a Texans branch. If you encounter any issues, please contact us toll-free at 1.800.843.5295.

What should I do if I lose my debit card?

To report your card lost or stolen, first log in to your digital banking account, then select Card Management. Hover over the image of the lost debit card and select Manage Card. Select the Lost or Stolen button, then select Report as Lost or Report as Stolen. You will need to visit a branch or call us at 972.348.2000 to order a replacement card.

* Each qualification cycle (1st of the month through last day of the month) that you have direct deposits of $4,000 or more to your Texans Two-Step Checking: (a) the monthly service fee of $15 will be waived; (b) two (2) Non-Texans ATM transaction fees of $7.50 each and two (2) International ATM transaction fees of $3.50 each incurred during the qualification cycle will be refunded to your Texans Two-Step Checking account on the first day of following month; and (c) balances on your Regular Savings account, up to $15,000, will earn the 3-month Standard Certificate of Deposit rate (4.00% APY as of 09/30/2024). Balances over $15,000 will earn the same rate as the Regular Savings account (0.01% APY as of the last dividend declaration date), resulting in 4.00% to 0.25% APY, depending on your account balance. Direct Deposit is defined as deposits via an Automated Clearing House (ACH) originated from another financial institution (ex. payroll, social security, incoming ACH from an external account). A direct deposit does not include peer-to-peer transfers from services such as PayPal, Zelle, Cash App, or Venmo, mobile check deposits, cash loans or deposits, and any deposit which Texans Credit Union deems to not be legitimate are not considered Direct Deposits. If you do not meet the direct deposit minimum, fees will not be waived, ATM fees will not be refunded, and balances in your Regular Savings will earn the same rate as the Regular Savings account (0.01% APY). Rates are variable and subject to change without notice. Limit one Texans Two-Step Checking account per member. No minimum balance required to open a Texans Two-Step Checking account. Minimum balance of $5 required to open a Regular Savings account, and a minimum balance of $25 is required to earn dividends. Fees may reduce earnings. A $2 paper statement fee will apply if not enrolled in e-statements with a valid email address.

** The monthly service fee of $5 is waived with any monthly direct deposit to your My Texans Checking account or enrollment in e-statements.
